      Week #3

      Continuing from last week.

Let’s start by joining the five Half Square Triangle strips you made last week into 6 Sets of TEN Half Square Triangles.

Next let’s Take one Leaf One Unit and sew two Spacer 1 Units to each side as shown:

And then take one Leaf Three Unit and sew two Spacer 2 Units to each side as shown:

Set these leaf ‘expansions’ aside for now and save for next week.

Now one to the last blocks to make –

      The FLOWER Blocks! Woohoo!

      Make one block at time:

      Start each flower block with 1 Square M, 4 Rectangle A’s, 2 Square F’s, and from a matched set, 2 Square O’s, and 8 Square N’s.

On the wrong side of the two 3’ x 3” Square O’s draw a line from one corner to the other.

Taking one Square O with line on the wrong side and one Square F with no line,

Place them right sides together then
Sew a seam 1/4” from the drawn line on both sides as shown.

Cut down the drawn line – now you have two O/F units.

Press these seams open and trim these units to 2.5” x  2.5” Squares

Repeat this with the remaining Square F and O, making a total of four O/F units.

On the wrong side of the Square N’s draw a line from corner as shown:

Taking one Square N with line on the wrong side and one Rectangle A,

Place the Square N on the Rectangle A right sides together as shown:

Sew ON the drawn line as shown:

Repeat this with the three remaining Square N’s and Rectangle A’s .

Now trim off the corner of this A/N unit as shown:

Press Square N to the corner cut off as shown:

Now do the same thing on the other half of the Rectangle A/N units with the remaining Square N’s from this matched set as shown in the following photos:

Now you should have 4 N/A/N Units that look like this:

Now lay out your O/F units, your N/A/N units and your Square M as shown:

      Sew together in rows:

And then sew the rows together:

Repeat with your remaining 5 Square M’s, 20 Rectangle A’s, 10 Square F’s, and Matched sets of  Square O’s and N’s to make five more flower blocks for a total of six flower blocks.
