Preparing fabric

From white fabric cut:

  • 34- 3” x 3” squares

From light gray fabric cut:

  • 58- 3” x 3” squares

From medium/dark gray fabric cut:

  • 24- 3” x 3” squares

From each of the red/pink fabrics cut:

  • 8- 3” x 3” squares (8 squares from each of the 4 fabrics) Label #1 thru #4 (I labeled mine, light pink #1, pink #2, red #3, and dark red #4)

Let's begin!

Designer Note: ¼” seam thru out.

Let us begin with making some half square triangles. Pair together, right sides together the following:

  • 2- medium/dark gray square with light pink #1 square
  • 2- medium/dark gray square with pink #2 square
  • 2- light gray square with red #3 square
  • 2- light gray square with dark red #4 square

  •

    Sew from corner to corner.

Trim away the excess fabric and iron.

There are 2 half square triangle for each color #1 - #4.

Following the layout chart for the table runner.

Sew the squares and half square triangles together row by row to form the table runner.

I like to chain sew the squares together following the chart to make one big chain sewed sheet. I then sew the rows together the other direction without clipping any of the sections apart.

    Iron.

Borders: From medium/dark gray fabric cut:

    4- 3” x WOF (width of fabric)

Sew the 3” x WOF strips together end to end to form one long strip. Measure the length of your table runner and cut two strips for the length. Sew to each side of your table runner using a ¼” seam. Measure the width of you table runner and cut two strips for the width. Sew to each end of the table runner. Iron.

Layer quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. Trim edges.

Binding: From medium/dark gray fabric cut:

    4 – 2” x WOF strips

Then sew the 2” strips together end to end. Fold in half lengthwise, iron. Sew around the table runner lining up the edge of the front side using a ¼” seam. Miter corners. Fold binding around the out edge of the table runner and hem the binding to the back of the quilt using a blind stitch.

Note:  To make a smaller table

    Runner try using 2” blocks
